Friday 15th September - Sunday 17th September - Camp at Woodhall Spa (with another unit)

This camp was organised by our adjoining scout group in conjunction with a venture unit from the Boston area. On arrival, we had discovered that the previous night's gales had felled trees and blocked the entrance road. After clearing the blockage with our axe and saw skills, we proceeded to our site. 15 minutes later our campsite was set up, and we lit the gas burners to get the kettle boiling, as we watched the scouts put up their tents. That evening we enjoyed a hot supper before falling asleep in our tent. The next morning, we decided to help the camp wardens by replacing all of the rotten logs around the campfire circle used as seating. We cleared the fallen trees and cut them up into logs of the correct size. The job took the whole day, but we were all rewarded with the satisfaction of a good deed. We left the next day, from a campsite in immaculate condition.

Friday 26th January – Watching Pantomime of Cinderella – Waddington Village Hall

We were all excited to watch this unique performance, as we knew some of the actors/actresses, and wanted to watch how they were going to perform. It was very special indeed, and nobody noticed the mistakes made by the stars. It was a well-known show but had an original touch of glory.

Friday 2nd February – Running Scout Night

The scouts were as excited as we were to find out we had a slot in their calendar. After a hazy start of getting their attention for a minute we were soon on our way and the night flew by smoothly with no hick-cups

Friday 23rd February - Sunday 25th February – Camp at Sudbrooke (Bring a friend)

This camp was organised with the sole purpose of interesting new members into the unit. All ventures were to invite one of their friends to this camp where we would show them the type of activities that we do and show them how fun scouting is. It was a success, and afterwards the three newcomers were interested in joining our unit. The main activity was a leader's challenge. This was to build a pioneering structure so that we could cook, and eat our lunch above a six foot stick wedged into the ground. Unfortunately for us, the weather took a turn for the worse and we awoke to find that it had been snowing! All participants enjoyed the camp, and we all gained experience for the future.

Friday 2nd March – Washingborough Bowl for Bowling

Another ploy to interest new members into the unit was to organise a bowling night. It was a triumph, and all members plus friends came. We had two games to play, and soon noticed who was the better player. Our leader started with 5 strikes, and everyone else tried to beat his score, but in vain.

Friday 16th March – Burger King

We decided to meet at the Burger King in the St. Marks area and have something to eat. As we are an active unit we like to have a variety of locations to hold our meetings. We arranged the fore-coming summer's activities and arrangements for weekend camps. We also invited wanna-bee ventures to this night for their inspiration.

23rd March – Running Scout Night

Yet again we were tricked into running a scout night for our 'personal experience'

Friday 20th April – St. Georges Day Parade Rehearsal.

The rehearsal for this year's St. Georges Day parade was an evening practice for those members of the colour parties, who carry the group flags. One of our ventures had volunteered for the District Scout colour party, who were responsible for carrying the country's flags. Later that evening was the rehearsal for the group's flags. As a large unit we needed a party of three for each of our sections; the beaver colony, both cub packs, the scout troop and the venture unit.

Sunday 22nd April – St. Georges Day Parade.

St. George is the patron saint of scouting, so every April, on the nearest Sunday to St. Georges Day, we celebrate with a parade and a service inside Lincoln Cathedral. All sections were represented although some boycotted! Fortunately, this year the weather held out and we enjoyed the sunlight.

Friday 11th May – Police HQ (West Parade)

We had been invited to the police headquarters in Lincoln for a tour of the premises and to be shown what the police officers do. Three of our scouts joined us, who were ready to join ventures. We were shown around the building for the evening, and taken through every part of the station, including the cells! Luckily for us, they were empty at the time!

Sunday 13th May - District Canoeing Evening

This day had been organised by the Lincoln District, and so all units in the area were invited. It was an outing to the Pywipe Inn

Wednesday 23rd May– District venture scout meeting

Friday 6th July – Sunday 8th July – Cub camp Walesby

This camp was great fun. The cubs were constantly chasing the ventures around the site despite having hardly any sleep at all. We all had a go on the traverse wall at the site, though nobody got very far with it. We also watched as the cubs went on the climbing and abseil wall. It was many of the cubs first go at anything like that, and most of them did very well. On Sunday morning, the cubs and ventures went swimming in the outdoor pool! Despite being mid-summer, the water was freezing and only the bravest lasted more than 20 minutes!! The cooking was done mostly by the leaders and helpers, and was appreciated after the hard day, but the Ventures did most of the eating! A great camp.

Wednesday 25th July - District Canoeing Evening

We started the long journey at Altham Terrace and our rendezvous point was 'The Plough' on Newark Road.

Friday 3rd August - Monday 13th August - AUSTRIA!

Friday 24th August - Local Night Hike\Camp

As night drew near we set off and covered 6 miles in four hours. We walked along the Viking Way to Coleby, then returned via the small stretch of Ermine street south of the city. We picked up a Chinese on the route back and settled down after several hours of nightly conversation...basic chit chat! All in all a good evening out!

In the morning all the ventures turned out for the group paper collection and then went home after a job well done.

Saturday 8th September - Beginners Caving

The spirits were high all the way on the journey to Matlock, so we could tell it was going to be a good time! A couple of hours in a car was worth the excitement we encountered as we had the time of our lives being forced through small wet holes! Some of the gaps were so tight even one of our leaders couldn't get through it, unlike Ian Webb who skillfully slipped between the rocks with great ease. We actually ventured through two caves the first being very tight and the second being very wet so it was laughs all the way.

Yet again the Delta Ventures are in debt to its leaders for all their hard work and time put into the organising and a special thank you to Phil for his efforts and Ian in coming along and assisting as his comments as normal added to the fun atmosphere.

Friday 21st September - Sunday 23rd September - World Conservation Camp (Sudbrooke)

On the weekend of 21st – 23rd of September the 10th Lincoln cubs, scouts and Ventures were involved in a project at Sudbrooke campsite. Everyone turned up on the Friday evening at 6:00 to set up camp ready for a hard working weekend ahead. It involved making a nature trail for the campsite.

At about 8:00 we went off for a hike, which didn’t even get out of the campsite when we had to turn round and go back. We got back had our supper of hot dogs before the cubs went to bed, shortly followed by the scouts.

We woke up on the Saturday knowing that it was to be a long day. We all had our breakfast early before sorting our groups out and getting to work. Everyone was split into four groups – each covering one section of the nature trail. Groups were assigned one or two ventures to take charge and organise where their route would go and assigning jobs for everyone to do. The first day involved about 8 hours of work, which started with 2 hours of cubs making bird boxes, squirrel boxes, insect hotels etc. The scouts and ventures all contributed to making the bird hide where people would go in and watch the wildlife without disturbing it.

Before we really knew lunch had come around and afterwards we were straight back to work again. This time we had to clear our route and outline it with branches and sticks. Our group had the final part so we had to build a closing gate as well.

It was the end of Saturday and our group knew we had a good days work done but a very busy couple of hours for the next day making our closing gate facing the big oak and setting our hide up. A busy morning paid off and it was ready in time.

In the afternoon it was time for the official opening, which was done by the District Commissioner – Den. We went right round the trail with him where the group leaders (ventures) explained what they had done.
